Microfab X Monitor ERP: a legacy of precision, a future of innovation

Monitor ERP is an excellent choice for companies seeking to streamline their processes and achieve sustainable growth.

Since 2003, Microfab Technology Sdn Bhd has been a trusted name in precision toolmaking, specializing in jigs, fixtures, and high-precision components, serving industries such as semiconductor and electronics. With a strong commitment to quality and innovation, Microfab envisions becoming the precision toolmaker of choice on a global scale. To achieve this, the company embarked on a digital transformation journey—one that led them to Monitor ERP.

Digital transformation journey from manual paper-based tasks to a comprehensive ERP system

The challenge: manual processes and operational bottlenecks

Before implementing Monitor ERP, Microfab relied on a mix of Excel sheets, separate departmental templates, and multiple software applications to manage their operations. This fragmented approach created inefficiencies, from quoting and inventory tracking to production scheduling and quality control.
“We used Excel for quotations and another software for invoicing, which often led to data entry errors. Managing production schedules and inventory was also a challenge,” shared Teh Wei Win, Sales Executive. With an on-time delivery rate fluctuating between 65% to 75%, the need for a more robust and integrated solution was evident.

The solution: a fully integrated ERP for a high-mix, low-volume industry

Microfab discovered Monitor ERP at an exhibition in May 2022. After witnessing the system’s real-time machine integration (MI) capabilities, they saw an opportunity to optimize their operations. By August 2022, they had fully implemented Monitor ERP, bringing digital transformation to their manufacturing processes.

“Industry 4.0 technology is crucial for SMEs, especially in high-mix, low-volume manufacturing. Monitor ERP provided a comprehensive solution with minimal customization required,” explained Khoo Seng Lim, Managing Director.

The transformation: improved efficiency, accuracy, and productivity

With Monitor ERP in place, Microfab experienced immediate improvements:

Enhanced production planning and delivery reliability
•    On-time delivery increased from 65%-75% to 85%-90%.
•    Priority planning became seamless, simplifying the management of delivery dates and inventory levels.
•    Real-time data access enabled faster decision-making and improved traceability.

Streamlined quotation and order processes
•    Creating quotations is now faster and more accurate, reducing errors from manual data entry.
•    Sales and production teams can track raw material availability and machine time without back-and-forth emails or WhatsApp messages.

Optimized inventory management and material planning
•    Monitor ERP’s automated material tracking ensures the purchasing team knows exactly what to order based on manufacturing orders (MO).
•    The system minimizes stock shortages and prevents over-ordering, improving cost control.

PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) capture machine data by monitoring inputs from connected machines, feeding real-time insights to the Monitor ERP MI dashboard to track machine performance

Seamless Machine integration (MI) for greater productivity
•    The MI dashboard was up and running in just two to three days, providing real-time machine status visibility —so intuitive that even those without a technical background can set it up with ease.
•    Operators now understand the causes of machine stoppages, allowing for quicker troubleshooting and increased productivity.
•    The Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) assessment helps maximize machine efficiency.

Stronger quality control and defect reduction
•    The quality team can now identify defect causes more efficiently, leading to better corrective and preventive actions.
•    This has contributed to a monthly reduction in rejection rates.

A future-ready manufacturing partner

Reflecting on the journey, Director Law Peir Ing emphasized the benefits of standardization: “Before, each department used its own templates and documents. Now, everything is centralized, bringing uniformity and clarity across teams.”
With Monitor ERP, Microfab has not only streamlined its processes but also strengthened collaboration, optimized decision-making, and enhanced production efficiency. As the company continues to grow, its partnership with Monitor ERP stands as a testament to the power of innovation, integration, and intelligent manufacturing—ensuring a future where precision meets progress.
