The Carbon Limit Adjustment Mechanism, CBAM, has come into effect

Several areas of the EU's Fit for 55 climate package have finally been approved. One of these areas is the border adjustment mechanism for carbon dioxide – also called the CBAM regulation, after the English Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

CBAM means that emissions from certain carbon dioxide-intensive goods imported into the EU are priced in the same way as goods produced within the EU. CBAM will be fully applicable from 1 January 2026, however, as early as from 1 October 2023, importers of CBAM goods are required to report embedded emissions in their goods.

Companies must report emissions data for the period October–December 2023 in January 2024. Bear in mind this refers to emissions generated by goods imported outside the EU, to be compensated in the form of emissions rights.

Working with CBAM in Monitor ERP

Step one is to check in the part list to see if you have any parts that are affected by the new directive. Do this by filtering the CN numbers that fall under the scope of the CBAM.

If you have any CN numbers that fall under the scope of the CBAM, you can copy them to the clipboard to then use as a filter together with the below filter on the Supplier group.

Please note! In our example below, Supplier group “Import” has number 3. Supplier group “Import” might have another number in your system.

Check the delivery log and filter on the supplier group, which is import + part selection.

Monitor is currently developing basic support in order to handle CBAM.
