Change of database platform in Monitor ERP

We would like to inform you of an important change concerning the database platform used in Monitor ERP. After almost 30 years of using SQL Anywhere, we are now implementing a strategic, long-term technological shift that will strengthen both security and development capabilities within the system.

Reason for the change

Our current database management system, SQL Anywhere, is owned by SAP, which has announced that it will discontinue further development and maintenance of the product. As a result, the database will no longer be able to meet our long-term requirements for modern functionality, security, and stability.

To ensure that Monitor ERP continues to be a robust and future-proof system, we have therefore spent considerable time evaluating all relevant alternatives on the market – technically, functionally, and economically.

The choice: PostgreSQL

Following extensive analysis, we have decided to replace SQL Anywhere with PostgreSQL.

This decision is based on the fact that PostgreSQL is one of the world’s most established and stable database management systems, with strong global development, very high performance, and a sustainable long-term ecosystem. This change gives us the best conditions to continue developing Monitor ERP at a high pace for many years to come.

How will this affect you as a customer?

1. Installation and migration

To facilitate the transition, we have developed a tool that guides you through the process. The process is largely automated and can be carried out independently using Monitor’s tools and instructions.

2. Optional assistance

If you would like assistance, Monitor can help with the installation of PostgreSQL and the migration of the database at a fixed price per test/production company. The service includes installation of PostgreSQL, migration of a test company or production company, and the setup of backups. You are responsible for ensuring that any required preparations have been completed before the migration of a production company is scheduled. The service does not include installation of adaptations or options.

3. Support and maintenance for database

To ensure long-term support, security updates, testing, and ongoing maintenance, a new annual fee will be introduced and will apply to all database platforms. The fee amounts to EUR 20 per user per year (or the equivalent according to the current price list in the relevant currency). The fee is index-adjusted annually and charged at the price applicable at the time. The fee does not apply to Monitor’s cloud solution (SaaS).

4. Adaptations and customized solutions

If you have adaptations in your system, these may need to be adjusted to function with PostgreSQL. We will help you review and ensure compatibility for adaptations covered by an update agreement at no additional cost. If you would also like support with installing the adaptation, testing, or a joint review, additional charges apply according to the current price list.

If you have your own adaptations developed internally, purchased through consultancy services, or supplied by third parties, these must also be reviewed and updated. We therefore recommend that you make an inventory of all customized solutions and ensure that they will function after migration, especially if they are critical to your operations. If you require assistance, it is possible to book consultancy support via our adaptation team.

5. How the transition works in the cloud

For customers using Monitor’s cloud solution, we will contact you ahead of the migration to PostgreSQL. We manage the entire process and will notify you well in advance of when the migration is scheduled for your environment.

If you have your own adaptations, adaptations without an update agreement, or database integrations, these must be reviewed and updated prior to migration (see section 4). Test companies can be provided upon request so that you can carry out any necessary testing.

Please note that the annual database fee (section 3) does not apply to customers using Monitor’s cloud solution in a SaaS environment.

For customers using Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL)

Customers who currently use Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) are not affected by the transition from SQL Anywhere to PostgreSQL. The ongoing migration to PostgreSQL does not currently apply to MSSQL environments, and no action is required.

When will the change take place?

PostgreSQL will be rolled out gradually to all customers throughout 2026. You will receive instructions and further information regarding when the migration will be available for your organization, as well as any preparations that may be required ahead of the transition.

The following applies to future versions of Monitor ERP:

• Version 27.2 (scheduled for release in February 2027) is planned to be the final version of Monitor ERP that supports SQL Anywhere.
• From version 27.3 onwards, all support for SQL Anywhere will be removed.
• Migration to PostgreSQL is required to upgrade to version 27.3 and later.

We recommend that you plan and carry out the migration to PostgreSQL in good time. PostgreSQL is the platform that Monitor ERP will continue to be developed and supported for, and it is necessary for future upgrades, secure operation, and continued support.
