The fourth generation of the Monitor ERP system – our cherished G4 – which has been with us since 1997, is reaching the end of its life. In 2016 we launched the fifth generation, Monitor G5, during a major event in Stockholm. Since the launch date, we've worked towards upgrading all our existing G4 customers to G5 in a quick, seamless, but above all, safe way. Since the first upgrade took place at the end of 2016, almost 1,700 customers have transitioned to G5, and forecasts show that more and more customers will upgrade in the near future.
With the arrival of Monitor G5, Monitor G4 began to be phased out, a process which has been ongoing since 2016. In recent years we've substantially limited our development of G4, with the final version released in 2021, and since then, the only development taking place was to ensure legal and regulatory requirements arising were met. But as of December 31, 2023, that development has stopped, which means it's now more critical than ever to upgrade to G5. If new legal and regulatory requirements arise from now on, Monitor will not be able to accommodate them. Monitor G4 therefore ceased all form of development at the turn of the year.
However, we will continue to offer support for G4 for those who continue to use this version, although it will be to a limited extent.
At Monitor, we are moving our Support employees from the G4 department to the G5 department gradually, as more customers upgrade, so the capacity of G4 support will reduce as more and more customers transition. That said, we will still provide support for Monitor G4 until December 31, 2025.
Regarding training and consultation for Monitor G4, we decided in August 2023 that we would substantially limit access to this. A big reason for that is because we also have fewer resources for G4 on the consulting side than we had before, which leads to knowledge gaps and poorer lead times among our G4 consultants. This means we cannot offer first-class training and consulting for G4 with the same guarantees as before. At the same time, it was also decided that we would stop selling options and adaptations for G4.
By providing this information, Monitor intends to make the following clear: Upgrade to Monitor G5 as soon as possible to ensure your company complies with current laws and regulatory requirements, and uses the best ERP system for your operation. In Monitor G5, the scope for streamlining your operations is far greater than in G4, and there is a lot of new functionality that was not previously available in the previous version.
Many of our customers will be upgrading to Monitor G5 in the near future, so our lead times to be able to help you with an upgrade will become longer than usual. We therefore recommend that you register your interest for an upgrade now, so that you don't risk ending up in a long queue later on.

Frequently asked questions on upgrading to Monitor G5
Can our company upgrade?
Since we launched Monitor G5 in the fall of 2016, over 1,400 customers have upgraded from Monitor G4 to Monitor G5, which shows that no matter how much you use Monitor, an upgrade is possible.
How does an upgrade work?
Watch our recorded online presentation we held in 2023, in which we walked through the upgrade process from start to finish, delivered a short demo of G5 and answered some frequently asked questions:
https://vimeo.com/814259980
How long does an upgrade usually take?
From your initial contact with Monitor until you can use Monitor G5 in live operation, around 4–6 months.
Based on the upgrades we’ve carried out over the years, it takes an average of 6 consulting days to upgrade to G5, spread over a 3-month period. This is of course highly individual for each customer, based on size and application.
How much does it cost to upgrade?
Upgrading to Monitor G5 costs nothing in terms of software, as it is included in the Update Agreement (Please note! This does not apply to G4 version Monitor Basic, read more below).
Costs added by Monitor during an upgrade are those relating to our consultants and project managers, as well as a small installation cost.
How do you upgrade to G5?
Start by registering your interest in upgrading to Monitor G5, and we will contact you for more information regarding your particular company.
We have adaptations in our Monitor ERP system, what will happen with these when we upgrade?
If you have adaptations in your Monitor G4 installation at present and need to bring them over to Monitor G5, they are not included in the upgrade, but will be re-offered by us.
Based on the upgrades we've carried out over the years, however, fully 80% of all adaptations disappear when upgrading to Monitor G5, since G5 is a more flexible system that offers excellent standard solutions.
We have more than one company, do they all have to upgrade at the same time?
No, they don’t necessarily have to upgrade at the same time. However, our recommendation is to upgrade all companies at the same time for the most seamless handling, and to avoid repeating the same process later on.
Will our staff need training for the upgrade?
Yes, in most cases a certain amount of training is required to upgrade to G5. Even though G4 and G5 are basically Monitor systems, there are some differences between the systems you need to educate yourself about.
Training is offered partly via a consultant, but also via our digital training platform for Monitor G5, which goes by the name Monitor Academy. You’ll gain access to this free of charge for up to 8 people during the upgrade project.
Our company uses Monitor Basic. Can we upgrade to Monitor G5?
Yes, anyone using Monitor Basic can upgrade to Monitor G5. However, there is no Basic variant of Monitor G5, which means you either have to upgrade to a full Monitor system, or alternatively, upgrade to an accounting variant called Monitor Accounting (primarily intended for holding/accounting companies). Some differences in cost may occur when upgrading to Monitor G5 from Monitor Basic, so please contact us for information on this.
How long will we be able to use Monitor G4?
We have been gradually phasing out Monitor G4 for a number of years and will continue to do so. For some time now we've substantially limited the development of G4; for example we haven’t released any new versions for a few years now.
In terms of development, in recent years we've only taken measures to meet legal and regulatory requirements, however, even this type of development will end on December 31, 2023.
In the fall of 2023, we also decided to cease all forms of training and consultation for Monitor G4. The reason for this is that all our educators and consultants are only trained in-house on Monitor G5, which means we can't provide the same guarantee of first-class training and consultancy for G4.
We’ll continue to provide Support for Monitor G4 as usual until December 31, 2025, whereupon this will cease. Taking all this into consideration, we recommend that you begin to upgrade to Monitor G5 as soon as possible.
